WHO ARE WE?

Heart of America Poodle and Friends Canine Rescue, Inc. strives to save the lives of unwanted dogs. There are the strays that have been brushed off by the very humans that they loved and left to fend for themselves on the streets and alleyways. There are those in shelters, castaways that are no longer wanted or useful to their humans for whatever reasons. Occasionally, we will get a dog that is surrendered by the owner. Here, at Heart of America, we promise to see that all of their health & welfare needs are met and to find them the best, loving, "forever" homes that we can.

A dog is a living, breathing, creature made by God, to be a faithful companion to both woman and man. Depending on the breed, their life span can consist up to 20 years or more of living by your side. Unless you are prepared to keep your dog for the rest of HIS natural life, please do not consider buying or adopting a dog.

Health needs of each dog can be very diverse when they arrive at Heart of America Poodle and Friends Canine Rescue, Inc. Some may suffer from malnutrition, flea infestation or open wounds and are treated accordingly; from high protein diets to a good 'ole Saturday night bath and grooming. Some may require a little dental work consisting of teeth cleaning and polishing. All of the dogs in our care are spayed/neutered before going to their new homes and each receives their age appropriate vaccinations, including Bordetella. Every dog, 6 months or older, are tested for heartworms. If a dog has an on-going health issue, all interested parties will be notified BEFORE the adoption and agree that their new companion will get the proper medication and treatment as recommended by our veterinarians. To the best of our knowledge and with the help of our vets, all of our dogs are deemed healthy and vaccinated at the time they become available for adoption.

Behavioral issues are also very diverse with the rescue of our four-legged companions. Heart of America closely observes and socializes every dog in our care. Some may cower & shy away from human contact from abuse by their previous humans requiring extra love and care in handling. Some have been chained outside and have never seen the inside of a home. ALL of them want your love. Some of our dogs will be housetrained; ALL of them will be crate trained. Because we have so many, we are unable to properly housetrain them. It will be the adoptive family's responsibility to housetrain them. Please remember that all dogs will have an occasional accident or two in their new surroundings but with patience, love and a good routine, they are well on their way to becoming your best friend and companion.

Heart of America Poodle and Friends Canine Rescue, Inc. is operated by private citizens with no funding. Our hours are long but we continue working out of love for each and every dog. For their safety, all of our dogs are micro chipped with an Avid Friend Chip and leave for their new homes with a collar and leash. Copies of their medical record and adoption contract are also given to the adopters. When you adopt a dog from us, our adoption fees are what keep our program going. Adoption fees begin at $150.00 and will vary with each individual dog.

We believe that each dog deserves a second chance and we do our best in finding good "forever" homes. Your adoption fees and donations allow us to continue caring for our dogs, not only with their health and welfare issues but by finding that "special person" in their lives to love and cherish.
